USGIF was founded in 2004 as a non-lobbying, nonprofit educational foundation to promote the geospatial intelligence tradecraft and develop a stronger community of interest among government, industry, academia, professional organizations, and individuals. The Foundation and its participants share a mission focused on the development and application of geospatial intelligence to address national security objectives.
Since 2004, the foundation has awarded $480,000 in scholarships, and approved six universities for a geospatial intelligence accreditation and certification program. The programs have produced 100 graduates to date, with more than 300 in the pipeline at accredited schools. USGIF has also grown its annual GEOINT Symposium from approximately 1,800 to 4,500 attendees in 8 years, making it the must-attend conference of the year for the Intelligence Community.
