Dear GEOINT Community,

As a new year begins, Team USGIF is taking time to reflect, instill lessons learned, and build toward the future.

When we gathered for the GEOINT 2021 Symposium this past October, we collectively reveled in the power of our truly ubiquitous discipline and resilient community. We enter 2022 with renewed optimism for how USGIF will continue connecting and cultivating this vibrant GEOINT community and support the essential work all of you are doing.

To that end, we are excited to open GEOINT 2022 Symposium registration and housing in just a couple of weeks. As we return to the springtime cadence for our annual conference, we invite you to join us April 24-27 for the Symposium’s first-time visit to Colorado at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Aurora to explore this year’s theme, GEOINT: the Foundation of Intelligence. Confirmed speakers include:

    • VADM Robert Sharp, USN, Director, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
    • Lt. Gen. Chance Saltzman, USSF, Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Operations, Cyber, and Nuclear, US Space Force
    • Tonya Wilkerson, Deputy Director, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
    • The Hon. Christy Abizaid, Director, National Counterterrorism Center
    • Chirag Parikh, Executive Secretary, National Space Council
    • Lisa Rich, Founder and Managing Partner, Hemisphere Ventures
    • Amy Zegart, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science, Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, Stanford University, and Author of Spies, Lies, and Algorithms: The History and Future of American Intelligence

Looking ahead to our other 2022 events, entries open for the GEOINT 2022 Innovative Tradecraft Competition on January 12. While last year’s competitors set a high-water mark, we’re excited to see who will present in the final round on the Main Stage of GEOINT 2022. Entry date determines the order of presentations for the first round — first in, last to brief — so hurry!

We will resume our GEOConnect webinar series starting on January 19 with “What GEOINT Can Tell Us About Climate and Food Security,” and the second event in the series, “Making Geospatial Data Real: the Evolution of Strategy to Implementation,” following on February 16. GEOINT Service Days return to the USGIF event line-up in June, and the annual GEOGala in December will again usher in the holiday season. Be sure to visit our website regularly for more details on this year’s planned events.

As the spirit of optimism and hope propels us into this new year, please consider donating to the USGIF Scholarship Fund. Our community’s future is sustained today through your financial support of the next GEOINT generation’s research and education. Visit our donation page to learn about all the different ways you can give, and thank you to the organizations and individuals who have to date donated $52,700 since July 2021!

I look forward to seeing you virtually and in person this year. Stay safe, stay healthy, and most importantly, be geospatially intelligent!

Warmest regards,

Ronda Schrenk
CEO, USGIF
