Friday’s Food for Thought: Inauguration Day

Today, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45^th president of the United States. For those in Washington, DC, this weekend, this interactive Esri map will show you everything you need to know to get around the city. The map illustrates road closures, walking routes, metro lines, and much more to plan the best route around the Nation’s Capital.

One million people are expected to attend the events today. To help measure the crowd, satellites will pass over the National Mall during the day to help estimate the crowd levels. DigitalGlobe’s GeoEye-1 satellite snapped images during President Obama’s inauguration in 2009, which attracted approximately 1.8 million attendees.

Geospatial intelligence will also be playing a role today as thousands of law enforcement, federal agents, military, intelligence analysts, and emergency responders are on duty to keep attendees and the President safe.
