The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) recently announced the GEOINT 2019 Symposium theme: “Human-Machine Teaming & Innovation Yield Mission Success.”

GEOINT 2019 is scheduled for June 2-5 in San Antonio, Texas, and will feature four days jam-packed with opportunities to learn, network, and discover the latest in cutting-edge geospatial technologies.

“This year’s Symposium theme embraces the ongoing artificial intelligence revolution and the incredible potential when machine learning is applied as a tool to assist human decision-making,” said Ronda Schrenk, USGIF’s vice president of programs. “Geospatial innovation is occurring at an unprecedented rate across government, academia, and industry—with more and more commercial applications being developed worldwide. The convergence of these factors all contribute to heightened mission success in the defense, intelligence, and homeland security communities.”

The Symposium includes many avenues for individuals from across the geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) Community to be recognized for their achievements.

USGIF Awards Program

Kevin Jackson presented USGIF’s Academic Achievement Award to Dr. Kathleen M. Carley, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, at GEOINT 2018.

Each year at the Symposium, the USGIF Awards Program recognizes the exceptional work of the global GEOINT tradecraft’s brightest minds and most innovative organizations. The program shines a spotlight on outstanding achievements in five categories: academic, community support, government, industry, and military.

“Who are the best and brightest in your organizations?” said Kevin Jackson, chair of the USGIF Awards Subcommittee. “What are the game-changing innovations being developed on the second floor or down the hall? What impact was realized as a result of your program? Who were the collaborators that contributed to the success? These questions apply across all five USGIF Award categories. Your challenge is to answer them. The 2019 USGIF Awards nomination period is now open and I humbly ask for your participation.”

Any individual, team, or organization engaged in GEOINT and related fields including nontraditional technologies and capabilities—whether in global security, open-source information, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, location-based applications, virtual and augmented reality, and beyond—is encouraged to apply.

Nomination forms may be downloaded here and the application deadline is March 7.

Young Professionals Golden Ticket Program

USGIF’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) hosts an exclusive opportunity for young GEOINT practitioners at each Symposium. The YPG Golden Ticket Program offers young professionals the chance to attend the event to meet with senior GEOINT leaders and innovators.

This year, USGIF will select 30 young professionals to attend. The special program includes private networking events, private luncheons with government and industry seniors, admission to the USGIF Chairman’s reception, and more.

Participants in the GEOINT 2018 Golden Ticket Program attended a mentoring session in the exhibit hall.

“The Golden Ticket program was beneficial in so many ways,” said Marisa Hess of Strategic Alliance Consulting, who participated in the program at GEOINT 2017. “It opened doors for me that I didn’t think were possible. I met top community leaders, heard personal stories about their journeys, and gained insight that allowed me to see different directions my career could take. Through the private networking events, I met a person who would later become a friend and would eventually introduce me to the boss and mentor I have now. You never know who you might meet that will change your future.”

Being awarded a spot in the Golden Ticket Program includes complimentary GEOINT 2019 registration, however, winners are responsible for their own travel and housing. If selected, winners agree to attend the full Symposium and all activities and discussions that accompany the Golden Ticket agenda.
