NIU to Move to Maryland

The National Intelligence University (NIU) is relocating from inside the Defense Intelligence Agency headquarters to a new facility on the Intelligence Community Campus in Bethesda, Md. The move to Maryland began in December and will be completed in February. The relocation comes as the university evolves from a Defense Department schoolhouse to an accredited university serving the entire Intelligence Community. NIU is an accredited, federal degree-granting institution offering two master’s degrees, a bachelor’s degree, and a growing number of graduate certificate programs.

Revised CAC Charter Signed

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell recently signed a new Civil Applications Committee (CAC) charter. In December 2014, the CAC Executive Steering Group approved a review and revision of the previous charter, signed in October 2000. This revision reflects changes in technologies based on the evolving commercial imagery industry, updates the member roster, and outlines voting protocols. Other changes involve updating the CAC member missions to include: hazard, disaster, and public health assessments; environmental monitoring; law enforcement, regulatory, and homeland security; scientific research; and mapping, charting, and geodesy. CAC is an interagency committee under the U.S. Geological Survey that coordinates and oversees the federal civil use of classified collections.

Geospatial Analytics Market Continues to Grow

According to a report titled “Geospatial Analytics Market – Global Forecast to 2021,” the geospatial analytics market is projected to grow from $30.71 billion in 2016 to $73.91 billion by 2021. The report attributes the substantial growth of the geospatial analytics market to the high demand for the convergence and integration of geospatial technology with mainstream technologies.

CA Technologies Acquires Automic

CA Technologies completed its acquisition of Automic Holiday GmbH, a business process and IT automation software company. According to the press release, the acquisition broadens CA Technologies’ solution set to better enable customers to drive digital transformation across their organizations and compete in today’s application economy.

Woolpert to Map Maine

Woolpert was awarded a contract by the state of Maine to collect high-resolution, four-band orthoimagery throughout the state. The six-year deal has an estimated value of $1.7 million. The imagery will be used by the Maine GeoLibrary to provide geospatial data products to all levels of government, the University of Maine, and private and nonprofit businesses. These up-to-date, digitally accessible maps will be used for property assessment, planning, code enforcement, emergency management, environmental studies, natural resource management, and other topographic needs.
