DigitalGlobe Releases First WorldView-4 Image; NGA Awards ManTech IT Contract; Amazon Web Services Debuts Snowball Edge; Sanborn Wins USGS Contract

DigitalGlobe Releases First WorldView-4 Image

The first public image from DigitalGlobe’s recently launched WorldView-4 satellite is now available. The image was taken Nov. 26 and shows the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, which will host the Olympic Games in summer 2020. WorldView-4 will more than double DigitalGlobe’s capacity to globally collect 30-centimeter commercial satellite imagery—capturing as much as 680,000 square kilometers of the Earth’s surface per day. Lockheed Martin built the spacecraft, and the imaging system, built by Harris, captures multi-spectral imagery from 617 kilometers above Earth.

NGA Awards ManTech IT Contract

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) awarded ManTech a contract to provide information technology enterprise management services and enterprise management/cybersecurity services, reports WashingtonExec. Under the contract, ManTech will provide technical experts and thought leadership facilitating large-scale enterprise IT management and cybersecurity services that support NGA’s mission.

Amazon Web Services Debuts Snowball Edge

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced Snowball Edge, a portable hardware incorporating both computing and storage to enable customers to run tasks and store data locally. Snowball collects corporate data and physically ships it to an AWS data center for uploading, a service it calls AWS Snowmobile. The truck houses a container that can store up to 100 petabytes of data. Containers also feature GPS tracking and video surveillance in addition to cellular and satellite connectivity back to AWS headquarters.

Sanborn Wins USGS Contract

The Sanborn Map Company won a five-year geospatial products and services contract (GPSC) from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Sanborn services performed under the GPSC may include imagery and LiDAR data acquisition, photogrammetric mapping and aerotriangulation, orthophotography, thematic mapping, surveying and control acquisition, and much more.

OGSystems Partners with Narrative Science

OGSystems announced a partnership with Narrative Science, a natural language generation company, in the development of BlueGlass, OGSystems’ location-based intelligence platform. According to the press release, Narrative Science will leverage its technologies to tell the story depicted in the data.OGSystems’ BlueGlass platform combines commercial remote sensing, big data, and cognitive analytics to deliver real-time insights through situational awareness, anomaly alerting, and reporting of activities that could pose risk to the operations of its users.

TerraGo Joins Trimble Developer Partner Program

TerraGo joined Trimble’s Developer Partner Program and TerraGo’s mobile solutions, TerraGo Edge and TerraGo Magic, now include the Trimble GNSS Direct SDK to deliver positioning data from Trimble survey-grade receivers to iOS and Android mobile devices. 

Boundless Headquarters Moving to St. Louis

Boundless announced the company is moving its headquarters to the Cortex Innovation Community in St. Louis. The new office will be home to 20 employees and the company plans to add another 25 jobs in the next few years.
