Boundless Releases Open GIS System; Airbus Launches Stack Insight; GSA Launches Digital Communities; Vencore to Support U.S. Navy

Boundless Releases Open GIS System

Boundless announced its release of a new, open-source GIS solution that delivers an ecosystem comprised of a combination of technology, products, and experts. In response to market demand for more open and scalable GIS solutions, the company extended its GIS platform with Boundless Connect, a subscription service to a comprehensive repository of GIS data, and Boundless Desktop, a professional desktop GIS system providing geospatial knowledge, tools, and resources.

Airbus Launches Stack Insight

Airbus Defence and Space launched Stack Insight, a satellite-based change detection and volume calculation service developed for mining and civil engineering applications. Stack Insight eliminates the cost and risk associated with onsite surveying. The service can be used to remotely calculate extracted volumes, including piles and stacks of mined materials.

GSA Launches Digital Communities

The General Services Administration (GSA) launched two new Digital Communities—interagency platforms through which federal managers can share, develop, and implement strategies for new technologies. GSA created the Artificial Intelligence for Citizen Services Community and the Virtual/Augmented Reality Community. The AI community will cover the use of technologies such as chatbots and natural voice recognition systems to make public services more responsive and open. The virtual reality community will explore how citizens interact with advanced video and audio through virtual and augmented reality.

Vencore to Support U.S. Navy

Vencore announced it received an $80 million contract to support cyberspace science, research, engineering, and technology integration to the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Systems Center Pacific. Vencore will support rapid research, development, prototyping, demonstration, evaluation, and transition of cyber solutions for SPAWAR Pacific.

CACI Wins SOCOM Contract

CACI International won a $900 million contract for the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM)-Wide Mission Support (SWMS) program. Under the five-year agreement, CACI will provide program management, engineering and technical support, and professional services for SWMS.

EVG Launches MapVault

East View Geospatial (EVG) launched a web-based subscription service providing access to a global collection of raster mapping. Named MapVault, the service allows subscribers to gain access to hundreds of maps from global scale series, ranging from government-produced aeronautical charts to locally created topographic maps covering specific countries around the world. The subscription’s raster data can be entered into GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and Global Mapper.

Carahsoft Partners with Terra Pixel

Carahsoft and Terra Pixel have partnered to offer Terra Pixel’s geospatial data streaming platform through Amazon Web Services for the Intelligence Community. Streamap uses cloud computing to index, share, and search Open Geospatial Consortium standards-based geospatial data sets.

Peer Intel

IBM announced Doug McGovern has been named an associate partner for intelligence application development and innovation. Prior to IBM, McGovern served as chief information officer and director of IT services at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). McGovern brings more than 30 years of experience in technical operations and program management in the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense.

AECOM announced LaMont Wells has been appointed executive vice president of business development in the company’s management services group. Following a 30-year career in the government and private sector, Wells joins AECOM having most recently served as president and chairman of the board of directors at Technology Management Associates.
