Booz Allen Hamilton & Hortonworks Create Strategic Alliance

Booz Allen Hamilton and Hortonworks have announced a strategic alliance to help clients take advantage of the demand for individualized experiences and enterprise architecture shifting toward an open model. Through their partnership, clients across the federal and commercial sectors can seamlessly access Booz Allen’s offerings and Hortonworks’ data platform to build and gain transformational insights.

Esri Launches Open Data Initiative for Law Enforcement

Esri recently announced its ArcGIS Open Data Initiative for Law Enforcement. According to the company’s press release, the initiative allows police agencies of any size to build and share authoritative data for better policing and community engagement. This announcement supports the White House Police Data Initiative, which has mobilized 30 leading jurisdictions across the country to take action on recommendations in the area of data and technology.

Los Angeles Launches GeoHub

Esri Founder Jack Dangermond and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Gracetti announced the launch of GeoHub, a multifaceted geographic information systems platform that incorporates a number of existing ideas into one place. GovTech reports the goal of GeoHub is to share data between departments and create applications allowing users to get information about systems that interact with one another. Gracetti hopes the platform will create more efficiency, helping agencies target their work more effectively.

Dewberry to Collect Puerto Rico LiDAR Data

Dewberry was selected by the U.S. Geological Survey to collect and process topographic LiDAR data of Puerto Rico and the neighboring islands of Culebra, Vieques, and Isla de Mona. The data will be used to produce a high-resolution digital elevation model portraying the topography and bathymetry of Puerto Rico and its surrounding islands. It will provide improved elevation products to support important flood control, emergency management, and natural resource planning activities.

Pictometry Designs Outdoor Lab for RIT

Pictometry International Corp., a subsidiary of EagleView Technology Corporation, has designed and developed an outdoor, netted research lab at the Rochester Institute of Technology, reports GISuser. The lab will allow for advanced sensor research and flight training on UAVs. The 100-foot by 100-foot by 50-foot lab will provide a space to develop and test new UAV technologies and allow for the incorporation of important test variables such as the impact of weather conditions on signal processing.

American Systems Wins Spot on DIA E-SITE Contract

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) awarded American Systems as one of 25 recipients of its five-year, $6 billion Enhanced Solutions for the Information Technology Enterprise (E-SITE) contract. The contract will help DIA streamline the acquisition processes by improving contracting performance and data integrity and standardizing acquisition documentation. 

L-3 Completes Sale of NSS Business

L-3 Communications finalized the sale of its National Security Solutions (NSS) business to CACI for $550 million. NSS provides enterprise and mission information technology services, intelligence operations support, and operational infrastructure support.

Apple Purchases FlyBy Media

Tech Insider reports Apple purchased FlyBy Media, a startup specializing in augmented and virtual reality. According to the article, FlyBy’s technology can be used for indoor mapping and navigation, autonomous navigation for UAVs and automotive vehicles, and advanced tracking for head mounted display systems.
