Putting the Final Touches on Worldview-4

Lockheed Martin is completing final testing for DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-4 earth imaging satellite ahead of its September launch. Testing includes calculating the weight and center of gravity of WorldView-4, completing a health check of major systems, and testing image collection and downlinking capabilities. Once launched, WorldView-4 will double DigitalGlobe’s coverage of the world in high-resolution imagery.

NGA Awards Broad Agency Announcement to CCRi

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) awarded a contract to evaluate the success of its geospatial intelligence to its users, which is part of an effort to enhance NGA’s ability to effectively meet current and future customer demands. NGA awarded a nearly $500,000 contract to Commonwealth Computer Research, Inc. (CCRi) to research current GEOINT user communities as well as methods to enable data analytics to improve customer support. The contract runs through April 2017.

Army to Deactivate Long-Range Surveillance Companies

Military.com reports the U.S. Army intends to deactivate all nine of its Long-Range Surveillance (LRS) companies from the active duty and the National Guard this year as part of a plan to restructure its force. According to the article, the Pentagon will finalize a decision to deactivate three active-duty and six National Guard LRS companies in the next 60 days. Army LRS companies are comprised of 15 six-person teams led by a staff sergeant. The teams specialize in navigating forward positions to monitor enemy movement and gather intelligence for commanders.

Woolpert Establishes Enterprise GeoBase Team in Support of Air Force Contract

Woolpert formed an Air Force Enterprise GeoBase Team, which will support a $4.7 million contract to provide geospatial services to five Air Force commands: Air Combat Command, Air Education and Training Command, Air Force District of Washington, Air Force Special Operations Command, and Air Force Space Command. The project will support consistent, cost-effective geospatial information across multiple installations within each command. The aim of the GeoBase concept is to achieve economies of scale through a “one installation, one map” plan.

OGSystems Added to Navy’s SeaFort-e Contract

OGSystems was awarded the opportunity to compete for a range of functional support task orders for the U.S. Navy’s SeaPort-e contract. This multi-billion-dollar, government-wide acquisition contract will run through a three-year performance period. SeaPort-e is the Navy’s electronic platform for acquiring support in 22 service areas to include research and development, engineering, prototyping, and logistics.

Genscape and exactEarth Expand AIS and Maritime Data Services

Genscape and exactEarth announced they are expanding their automatic identification system (AIS) and maritime data services collaboration. The extended partnership focuses on building and delivering next generation services and data sets required by financial information services and trading firms. exactEarth is now offering exactShipDB—a new, enhanced vessel information service leveraging the Genscape Vesseltracker Ship Database.

Accenture Launches Digital Hub in Japan

Accenture opened an Accenture Digital Hub in Tokyo, Japan, in an effort to help client’s embrace digital transformation through open innovation. The hub brings together digital transformation expertise and the knowledge of Accenture’s global professionals with innovative, enterprise-relevant technologies, as well as ideas from startups, creators, venture capitalists, university researchers, and corporate research and development labs both in Japan and at other overseas locations.

Accenture appointed Nancy McKinstry to its Board of Directors. McKinstry is CEO and chairman of Netherlands-based Wolters Kluwer.

USGIF Board Member Manh Pham is the American Geographical Society’s (AGS) featured AGS Fellow. Pham is an IT project manager at Accenture Federal Services supporting its intelligence and federal information technology infrastructure outsourcing and client delivery portfolios. Pham also helps lead USGIF’s Young Professionals Group.
