DARPA Selects Northrop Grumman for TERN Program

DARPA awarded phase three of its Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node (TERN) program to Northrop Grumman. TERN is a joint program between DARPA and the United States Navy’s Office of Naval Research that conducts airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance and other capabilities at long range. In phase three of TERN, DARPA plans to build a full-scale demonstrator system of a medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned air system for small deck ships such as destroyers and frigates.

Cubic Corp Acquires TeraLogics

San Diego-based Cubic Corp. acquired Ashburn, Va.-based software company TeraLogics for $39 million, reports The Washington Post. TeraLogics processes unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance footage for the U.S. military. According to the article, Cubic is looking to edge into the military intelligence and surveillance business in part by acquiring companies to gain access to new technology. Cubic also recently acquired GATR Technologies, an Alabama-based satellite equipment manufacturer.

DIA Awards Pragmatics E-SITE Contract

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) awarded Reston, Va.-based Pragmatics a five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity Enhanced Solutions for the Information Technology Enterprise (E-SITE) contract valued at up to $6 billion. The E-SITE contract will aid DIA in streamlining the acquisition processes to improve contracting performance and data integrity, standardize acquisition documentation, and more. According to the article, Pragmatics will focus on task orders, providing worldwide IT services and capabilities to support DIA, the combatant commands, military services, intelligence needs, and partner agencies across the Intelligence Community. BAE Systems to Provide Radar Support Services to Air Force

According to BAE Systems’ press release, the U.S. Air Force awarded the company a $278.5 million, five-year contract for the Air Force’s Instrumentation Radar Support Program (IRSP) managed by BAE Systems. IRSP supports more than 500 systems with work ranging from simple logistical upgrades to complete depot-level overhauls. BAE Systems will provide serviceable components and subsystems for 28 test ranges with radar, telemetry, and optical tracking systems around the world. The work is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.

Esri Publishes Map Design Book

Esri recently published a new edition of “Designing Better Maps: A Guide for GIS Users” by Cynthia A. Brewer, cartographer and faculty member at Pennsylvania State University. According to the press release, the book guides mapmakers through the process of designing visually pleasing and easily comprehensible maps. The book focuses on basics of cartography, layout design, and working with base maps, legends, scales, and more.
