CACI Acquires L-3 NSS

According to Reuters, L-3 Communication’s Holdings sold its government services division, National Security Solutions (NSS), to CACI International for $550 million. L-3’s NSS will position CACI to pursue larger contracts and expand its relationships with the defense, intelligence, and national security communities. The sale is expected to close in Q1 2016.

Raytheon to Support DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-4

Raytheon is collaborating with DigitalGlobe to develop the capability to support a September 2016 launch and mission planning of DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-4 satellite. WorldView-4 will be the fifth DigitalGlobe satellite with planning and scheduling support provided by Raytheon’s Constellation Scheduling System. The system runs routine planning and scheduling automatically, yielding more efficient schedules and allowing DigitalGlobe to focus on fulfilling customer orders for specific imagery.

Boundless Raises $5 Million

Boundless announced it has raised more than $5 million in series B funding led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. The funding will be used to continue investment in engineering and sales expansion to make powerful yet cost-effective, standards-based geospatial solutions accessible across industries.

Next Generation of SAR Satellites to see World in Color

Airbus Defence and Space reports it was recently allocated new frequency bandwidths for Earth observation Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems to now reach 1.200 megahertz. According to the press release, this opens the door to unprecedented image resolution quality in color for future SAR satellites. The company’s next generation of SAR satellites will be able to offer high-quality, 25-centimeter resolution imagery and quad polarimetry data to visualize imagery in color and better analyze surface features such as infrastructure and vegetation. Airbus is already working on its next generation of SAR satellites, and plans to move forward in offering new applications based on this high-quality SAR imagery.

USGS Releases Remote Sensing Handbook

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently published a three-volume “Remote Sensing Handbook,” covering all remote sensing topics and written by more than 300 leading global experts. Containing 2,000+ pages in 82 chapters, the handbook is a reference for every remote sensing student, professor, scientist, practitioner, and expert. Dr. Prasad S. Thenkabail, an international expert in remote sensing and GIS with USGS, edited the handbook. All three volumes can be purchased online.

Envitia and Carrenza Partner on SaaS Solution

Cloud services provider Carrenza and British geospatial information system technology company Envitia announced a partnership that will see Envitia’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution available on the British government’s G-Cloud 7 framework, reports Directions Magazine. Envitia’s GEOINT Suite is now available on the G-Cloud framework via the Carrenza Cloud and will provide public sector organizations with an easy, cloud-based way of accessing, managing, and analyzing vast amounts of geospatial data.

UrtheCast announced Wade Larson as its new CEO, in addition to his roles as president and COO, effective immediately. According to a CNN article, Larson is a co-founder of UrtheCast and has more than 20 years of experience in the space sector.

WashingtonExec reports two new additions to InSequence’s board of advisors. The first is Dr. Robert H. Laurine, Jr., vice chancellor and chief information officer for the University System of Georgia. Laurine oversees all 30 public universities in the state of Georgia and held previous positions with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and HP Enterprise Services. Additionally, Dr. Arthur G. Deacon, managing member of DeaConsultants, will join InSequence’s board of advisors. Deacon previously held positions with AT&T and served as a consultant to the President’s National Strategy for Security Cyberspace Committee.
