Leidos & Boundless Enter Strategic Partnership; Planet Labs Shares Imagery to Public; LGS Innovations Acquires Axios

Leidos & Boundless Enter Strategic Partnership

To better collaborate on cybersecurity and geospatial solutions, Leidos and Boundless have entered into a strategic relationship. According to Leidos’ press release, the two companies will collaborate on joint business development efforts to market and identify opportunities. Boundless will provide Leidos with open-source geospatial software development and expertise, while Leidos will align Boundless’ OpenGeo Suite to its strategic initiatives to update proprietary systems with cost-effective, open-source solutions.

Planet Labs Shares Imagery to Public

Planet Labs announced it would make $60 million worth of its satellite imagery openly available and accessible to the global community through a new company initiative called Open Regions. According to the press release, this is one of the largest philanthropic investments of geospatial imagery ever made. Planet Labs is committed to working with UN agencies and member states to increase their technical capability and access to this type of data.

LGS Innovations Acquires Axios

LGS Innovations recently announced it has acquired Axios, a communications, signal processing solutions, and mission support services provider for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. Axios’ leading-edge processing solutions and products will complement LGS’ intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technologies with the addition of mission-attached services and application development capabilities.

Vencore Awarded IT Services Contract

Vencore announced it was awarded a $43 million program to support IT services for the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service (FPS) under the National Protection and Programs Directorate. Under the contract, Vencore will provide professional and technical program management services to support the FPS Information Technology Division.

Global 3D Market to Soar

According to an Industry Today article, a new publication by Transparency Market Research reports the global 3D mapping and modeling market will reach more than $4.4 million by 2020. The research report, titled “3D Mapping and 3D Modeling Market-Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 2014-2020,” also said the increasing use of mobile devices with navigation and mapping technology is driving demand for 3D mapping. GSI Selected to Participate in IGAPP Industry Day

Geographic Services, Inc. (GSI) announced the company has been selected to showcase its Geographic Names (Geonames) and Human Atlas cloud-based GIS applications at USGIF’s Innovative GEOINT Application Provider (IGAPP) Industry Day Oct. 20 at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s Campus West in St. Louis, Mo. Geonames is a mobile application providing online and offline access to GSI’s phonetic search engine for geographic names, while Human Atlas is a web-based application supporting APIs.
