Maxar Technologies Awarded a Four-Year EGD Contract

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) awarded Maxar Technologies a four-year contract for the Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery (EGD) program. The contract, which began Sept. 1, is valued at $44 million for the base year and includes three option years at the same value that would extend the contract through August 2023. With this new contract, Maxar will continue to provide more than 250,000 U.S. government users with online and offline, on-demand access to its high-resolution imagery library for time-sensitive, mission-critical planning and operations.

Perspecta to Develop RF System for UAVs

Perspecta’s applied research division, Perspecta Labs, was awarded a prime contract after the successful implementation and demonstration for the Converged Collaborative Elements for radio frequency (RF) Task Operations (CONCERTO) program by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The award has a three-year performance period and a maximum value of $7.5 million. The objective of CONCERTO is to develop, implement, and demonstrate a converged RF system and sensor resource manager that controls components of radar, electronic warfare, and communications functions on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Under the program, Perspecta Labs will further develop its RF resource management solution and will demonstrate its scalability, agility, and applicability in a payload suitable for use on a UAV.

Raytheon Sensors to Fly Aboard NASA Satellite

Under a contract from the University of New Hampshire, Raytheon will build the Geostationary Littoral Imaging and Monitoring Radiometer (GLIMR), which will be NASA’s first hyperspectral imager in geostationary orbit. The instrument will provide high-sensitivity, high-spatial, and high-temporal resolution measurements of coastal and ocean ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico, parts of the southeastern U.S. coastline, and the Amazon River plume. GLIMR will help improve sustainability and resource management in the coastal ecosystem. It will also allow decision-makers to respond rapidly to natural and manmade coastal water disasters.

Airbus Completes Ocean Satellite Sentinel-6A

The Airbus-built ocean satellite Copernicus Sentinel-6A is set to embark on its first journey to Ottobrunn, near Munich in Germany. Once there, it will undergo six months of extensive tests to prove its readiness for space. The satellite will carry out high-precision measurements of ocean surface topography. It will also document changes in sea-surface height, record and analyze variations in sea levels, and observe ocean currents. The data collected by Sentinel-6A will be vital for modeling the oceans, predicting rises in sea levels, and enabling governments and institutions to establish effective protection for coastal regions.

FirstNet Comes to Fairfax and Prince William Counties

AT&T recently announced the launch of new FirstNet cell sites in Fairfax and Prince William counties to support public safety officials. The new cell sites offer a major boost in public safety wireless communication and are located at the Fairfax County Courthouse and in Manassas near Lomond Drive and Fairmont Ave. FirstNet will bring increased coverage, capacity, and capability to first responders across the region.

Orbital Insight announced the addition of former NGA Director Robert Cardillo and former USGIF CEO Keith Masback as the founding members its newly established Federal Advisory Board. Orbital Insight formed its Federal Advisory Board to help the company explore the full potential of its geospatial analytics platform and AI software to help the U.S. better prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.

Richard French was appointed director of Global Government Launch Services at Rocket Lab. In his new role, French will focus on providing launch and on-orbit solutions for U.S. civil space customers such as NASA and NOAA as well as international civil space customers.

HawkEye 360 promoted Robert Rainhart to chief operating officer. Rainhart served as executive vice president of Engineering prior to his promotion. He brings more than 20 years of experience in engineering complex systems and leading teams developing software, firmware, and hardware.
