NRO Awards Commercial Imagery Study Contract to HySpecIQ

HySpecIQ was awarded the fourth commercial imagery study contract granted by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). This is the first time NRO awarded a commercial hyperspectral imaging company. This represents the latest milestone in the agency’s commercial imagery acquisition and integration strategy. The new contract joins three additional commercial imagery studies announced in June and awarded to BlackSky Global, Maxar Technologies, and Planet. NRO will use these and future study contracts to assess the performance capabilities of domestic commercial satellite imagery providers and validate their ability to satisfy U.S. government requirements by 2023.

IARPA Launches Hector Program

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) announced a new multi-year research effort called the Homomorphic Encryption Computing Techniques with Overhead Reduction (HECTOR) program. The goal of HECTOR is to develop a set of tools and programming languages that will allow data to be processed while remaining in an encrypted state. If successful, it will allow for the development of new secure data services as well as make cryptographic computing more cost-effective and easier to implement.

 U.S. Navy Selects Eight Firms for Potential $968 Million C4ISR Contract

The U.S. Navy awarded eight companies positions on a potential 10-year, $968M contract to install C4ISR platforms at the service branch’s shore facilities worldwide. The awardees are Cambridge International Systems, Huntington Ingalls Industries’ fleet support group, KBRwyle’s technology solutions business, M.C. Dean, Parsons, Serco, SigNET Technologies, and VT Milcom.

Eight Firms Win Spots on $950 Million U.S. Air Force Contract

The U.S. Air Force awarded eight firms spots a potential 10-year, $950M contract to provide technical and analytical support to the Secretary of the Air Force’s Concepts, Development and Management Office. The eight firms are Altamira Technologies, Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte, Fulcrum IT Services, ManTech, MCR Federal, Novetta, and SAIC. 

Woolpert Launches New Service to Host and Support Imagery in the Cloud

Woolpert announced the launch of STREAM:RASTER, a subscription software service that hosts and facilitates access to geospatial imagery in the cloud. With STREAM:RASTER, customers will be able to upload raster data and create tile caches of the data ready for use in GIS and web mapping software. Customers are then able to manage and control access to their proprietary imagery with support and a service level agreement from Woolpert.

New Funding for Spire Global

Spire Global announced more than $40 million in new funding from strategic partners and financial investors. With this funding, Spire will be able to substantially increase the creation of its proprietary space-based data and analytics with a new level of accuracy for aviation, crucial weather data, and extreme weather prediction.
