Dewberry Assists in Developing Geospatial Database for Louisiana

Louisiana’s Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD) selected Dewberry to provide consulting services on the acquisition and processing of LiDAR and photogrammetric data to support the development of a statewide geospatial database for topographic mapping. Dewberry will assist in collecting, processing, management, and distribution of LiDAR and photogrammetric data acquired with DOTD’s aircraft, digital camera, and LiDAR sensors.

Raytheon Building Additional SPY-6 Radars

Raytheon will build two additional shipsets of SPY-6 radars for the U.S. Navy, under a $250 million contract. The company is now contracted to deliver a total of nine radar shipsets to DDG-51 Flight III destroyers. SPY-6 is a family of next generation, integrated air and missile defense radars that scale to meet the mission requirements of any ship; it is now in production at Raytheon’s advanced Radar Development Facility and remains on schedule for delivery to the first DDG 51 Flight III, the future USS Jack H Lucas (DDG 125). The first delivery of AN/SPY-6(V)2 to LHA-8, the America Class Amphibious Assault Ship, is on plan for 2021.

Leidos To Upgrade Metropolitan Police Command And Control System

Leidos has been appointed by London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to upgrade its Command and Control system, responsible for officer deployment. Leidos will deliver a flexible system that captures emergency contacts from the public and subsequently coordinates deployment of officers to incidents, pre-planned events, and other operations. The new Command and Control solution will provide a modern, easy to use, cloud-based system to help the MPS to further drive operational efficiency.

Perspecta Labs Demonstrates High-Bandwidth Ground-to-Aircraft Data Communications Over Commercial LTE Network

Perspecta’s innovative applied research arm, Perspecta Labs, successfully demonstrated long-distance, high-bandwidth data streaming between a test aircraft and a fourth generation (4G) long-term evolution (LTE) ground network. The test was conducted at Edwards Air Force Base as part of the Department of Defense (DoD) Cellular Range Telemetry Network (CeRTN) program in collaboration with the DoD Test Resource Management Center.

Woolpert Acquires Southern Mapping

Woolpert acquired Southern Mapping, a geospatial solutions provider and aerial survey company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Southern Mapping has extensive high-accuracy LiDAR, imagery and remote sensing experience, and produces airborne topographic, hyperspectral, and thermal surveys and mapping.This acquisition strengthens Woolpert and Southern Mapping’s ability to comprehensively serve their clients in Africa and across the globe, and positions the U.S.-based firm to have greater access to the fastest growing economies in the world.

Verizon and HERE Create Revolutionary Safety and Navigational Systems

HERE Technologies and Verizon announced a strategic partnership to explore cutting-edge applications between Verizon’s 5G Ultra-Wideband network and multi-access edge compute (MEC) platform—5G Edge—and HERE’s location, data technology and autonomous vehicle expertise. Their collaboration begins with work on vehicle and pedestrian safety, such as collision avoidance, and better location identification and navigation for ridesharing pick-up/drop-off and delivery services. 

OGC Calls for Participation in its Next Major Innovation Testbed

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites organizations to respond to the Call for Participation (CFP) for OGC’s Testbed-16 Innovation Initiative. Responses are due February 9, 2020. Testbed-16 will undertake research and development in real-world environments to further advance technologies falling under the following three threads: Earth Observation Clouds (EOC), Data Integration & Analytics (DIA), and Modeling And Packaging (MAP).
