Capella Space Unveils Advanced Satellite Design
Capella Space unveiled its evolved satellite design, which enables on-demand observations of anywhere on Earth. The re-engineered design features a suite of technological innovations to deliver timely, flexible, and frequent sub-0.5 meter high-quality images. Capella Space expects the enhanced technology package to deliver the most advanced offering for small satellite SAR imagery on the market.
HawkEye 360 and Airbus Form Strategic Partnership
HawkEye 360 and Airbus announced their new strategic partnership to deliver high-impact geospatial intelligence solutions. Both companies can leverage the platforms and services of the other to address client mission needs. It also enables HawkEye 360 and Airbus to fuse complementary data sets to maximize value to customers. Airbus will distribute HawkEye 360’s RF data and analytics across Europe to augment its maritime, defense, and intelligence products. HawkEye 360 will offer Airbus’ earth observation optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) products jointly with its RF solutions to serve defense and intelligence customers.
Raytheon Advances the FAA’s Air Traffic Terminal Automation System
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) selected Raytheon to improve the usability and reduce operational costs for the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS). The modernization of STARS is critical to ensuring the national airspace continues to stay safe. STARS is used by air traffic controllers across the U.S. to provide safe and efficient aircraft spacing and sequencing guidance for more than 40,000 departing and arriving aircraft daily at more than 600 civilian and military airports.
Leidos U.S. Army Common Driver Training Systems Services
Leidos was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) to produce, refresh hardware/software, and upgrade capabilities to the Army’s Common Driver Trainer (CDT) Virtual Product Line (VPL). Under the contract, Leidos will provide a technology refresh of the CDT systems to support training on several different vehicle types, including the US Army Tank Engineering Variant, Stryker, Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles, and other tactical wheeled variants.
Lockheed Martin Launches First Smart Satellite
Lockheed Martin launched the Pony Express 1 mission as a hosted payload on Tyvak-0129, a next-generation Tyvak 6U spacecraft. Pony Express 1 will enable artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud networking and advanced satellite communications in a robust new software-defined architecture. An example of rapid prototyping, Pony Express 1 was developed, built and integrated in nine months, and was funded completely by Lockheed Martin Research and Development funding. This orbital proving ground is validating payload hardware and software, and is packed with new technology that fits into a satellite the size of a shoebox.
MITRE Unveils Laboratory Focused on Autonomous Technology
MITRE created the Mobile Autonomous Systems Experimentation (MASE) Laboratory to research ways to accelerate advanced autonomous technology and provide objective perspective and recommendations for broad impact in multiple domains, including drones, commercial aircraft, tanks, and self-driving vehicles. In addition, the lab can demonstrate capabilities to sponsors interested in scenarios where autonomy can be applied.
