Ball Aerospace Completes MethaneSAT Preliminary Design Review

Ball Aerospace has completed the preliminary design review of the advanced spectrometer instrument for the MethaneSAT Flight System, a 350-kilogram satellite that will locate and measure methane emissions around the globe. Ball will now proceed with the critical design phase. MethaneSAT will launch in 2022 by MethaneSAT LLC, a subsidiary of the Environmental Defense Fund. The non-profit is dedicated to creating innovative science-based solutions to critical environmental challenges, including anthropogenic methane emissions, a significant contributor to global climate change. In addition to the MethaneSAT instrument, Ball Aerospace is providing flight systems integration and testing, launch support, and commissioning services.

General Dynamics Awarded High-Performance Computing Contract

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) received a $505 million contract by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service to provide supercomputing resources as a service through NOAA’s Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System contract. The systems will be designed, deployed and managed by GDIT and used to perform intense modeling of weather and climate patterns for use in generating forecast products supporting the National Weather Service. The single-award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity blanket purchase agreement holds a total estimated value of $505 million. It includes a base period of eight years with one two-year option. Through this contract, GDIT will receive task orders related to high-performance computing deliverables, including an initial task order of $150 million.

IBM Certified as Provider for Large SAP HANA Systems

IBM Power Systems has been certified for the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud as a critical infrastructure platform provider for large SAP HANA systems, aiming to simplify the IT infrastructure for the managed, private cloud environment. The service will run on IBM POWER9-based IBM Power Systems E980 servers, which have the industry’s largest virtualized server scalability of 24TB for the SAP HANA database. Providing the IT infrastructure for a managed, private cloud environment, the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is a scalable and secured service that is designed to accelerate a user’s evolution on the path to cloud readiness. It provides capabilities that span the software and hardware stack, a comprehensive menu of functional and technical services, and the level of control clients should expect on premises, all in one privately managed environment.

Accenture Awarded FedRAMP Authorization

Accenture Federal Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Accenture, received FedRAMP authorization for its Managed Detection and Response (MDR) cyber capability, a cloud-based, cybersecurity threat monitoring and incident response solution. Delivered as a service by Accenture Federal Services, MDR enables federal agencies, state and local governments, and providers of critical infrastructure, to proactively defend against and respond to cyber threats through a highly scalable centralized security operations center. Agencies of any size can use MDR to protect their infrastructure while meeting Federal Information Security Management Act compliance requirements.
