NGA Announces Moonshot Labs Software Factory and Accelerator in St. Louis

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency recently announced a new geospatial technology lab to open at the T-REX innovation center in downtown St. Louis. The NGA lab, in collaboration with T-REX, a non-profit development facility for innovation and entrepreneurism, will advance efforts between NGA, industry, and academia in the region. In his recently released Director’s Intent, NGA Director Vice Adm. Robert Sharp drew inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s bold “moonshot” assertion in September 1962. NGA predecessor organizations mapped the moon in support of the Apollo missions in the 1960s. The labs will support the NGA moonshot, while enhancing the region’s technology ecosystem. Moonshot Labs will be a modern, high-tech space specializing in geospatial technology. The lab will consist of software developers, technologists, and data science personnel. Construction will begin soon, with an anticipated completion date of spring 2021.

IBM Unveils New Capabilities for Preserving Aging Infrastructure Using AI, 3D Modeling and Data Capture

IBM announced new capabilities in IBM Maximo for Civil Infrastructure to help prolong the lifespan of aging bridges, tunnels, highways, and railways. New enhancements include the ability to deploy on Red Hat OpenShift for hybrid cloud environments, as well as new AI and 3D model annotation tools that can provide deep industry and task-specific insights to support engineers. IBM Maximo for Civil Infrastructure can consolidate numerous sources of data including maintenance and design details; near real-time IoT data generated from sensors; wearables; stationary cameras; drones; and weather data from The Weather Company. This data can help operators assess the impact of damage such as cracks, rust and corrosion, as well as displacement vibrations and stress. By better managing and prioritizing infrastructure repair, organizations can work to reduce the need for time-intensive manual inspections and unnecessary costs.

CACI Awarded $86.5M Task Order to Provide Data and Analytical Support Services to the Department of Homeland Security

CACI International was awarded a five-year task order, with a ceiling value of $86.5 million, by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide mission expertise in support of the Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) division. CACI will use its expertise in working with interagency partners, law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Defense to analyze proprietary, commercially available, and open-source data to help HSI thwart criminal, fraud, risk, and terrorism activity by more precisely targeting certain investigations and transform data into actionable insights. Uncovering patterns using data analysis methodologies enables detection of criminal activities, criminal conspiracies, and criminal networks.

Perspecta Labs Wins Two Awards to Improve Security of 5G Networks for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency

Perspecta Inc. announced that its innovative applied research arm, Perspecta Labs, received two awards on the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Open, Programmable, Secure 5G (OPS-5G) program for work to improve security of 5G networks. The awards, which represent new work for the company, have a combined ceiling value of $25 million and a four-year period of performance if all options are exercised. The expected deployment of 5G networks poses a significant security risk due to the proliferation of foreign and untrusted hardware devices. The OPS-5G program aims to improve 5G security through the creation of an architecture that decouples hardware and software ecosystems. Perspecta Labs will design, develop, integrate, and demonstrate a security solution that scales for devices ranging from IoT sensors to servers, and will incorporate a set of techniques to deliver real-time, distributed defense in depth cybersecurity for 5G, 6G and beyond.

Accenture Acquires Cloud-Native Provider Enimbos, Bolstering Cloud-First Capabilities in Spain and Portugal

Accenture acquired Enimbos, a Madrid-based provider of cloud migration and related services, enhancing its Amazon Web Services (AWS) capabilities, multi-cloud strategy and cloud migration services in Spain and Portugal. The acquisition follows Accenture’s recent announcement of a $3 billion U.S. investment to help clients rapidly become “cloud-first” businesses and accelerate their digital transformations. Enimbos’s employees are joining Accenture’s Cloud First organization, which includes 70,000 cloud professionals globally who help clients transform their many distinct processes and functions through integrated cloud strategies and transformation journeys.

Leidos announced that Lawrence C. Nussdorf has stepped down from the company’s Board of Directors for medical reasons, effective Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020. Nussdorf served on the company’s board since 2010, including as lead outside director from June of 2012 to May of 2018. His expertise in all aspects of financial, investment, and legal activities helped guide the company’s business strategies for growth and diversification.

SAIC announced that Michelle Sutphin has joined the company as chief security officer. In her new role, Sutphin is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing compliance with SAIC’s security policies and programs supporting the Department of Defense, the intelligence community and other customers to ensure security remains a competitive advantage for SAIC.
