NGA Accelerator Seeks Second Cohort of Promising Geospatial Technology Companies

The St. Louis-based NGA Accelerator Powered by Capitol Innovators is now accepting applications for its second cohort until June 23.

The accelerator collaboration aims to engage the geospatial ecosystem in the greater St. Louis Region and beyond to develop innovations in geospatial technology through collaboration and a transfer of technology and subject matter.

BAE Systems Receives $325M for M-Code GPS Modules

The Defense Logistics Agency for advanced Military Code (M-Code) has awarded a $325.5 million contract to BAE Systems for GPS modules that will provide reliable and secure positioning, navigation, and timing data with anti-jamming and anti-spoofing capabilities.

Under the multi-year contract, BAE Systems will deliver Modernized GPS User Equipment (MGUE) Increment 1 Common GPS Modules (CGMs) compatible with the advanced M-Code signal to support the U.S. Department of Defense and international allies through 2030.

Woolpert, Planet Expand Partnership to Offer Geospatial Products in Government Market

Woolpert and Planet have expanded their long-standing partnership to provide high-frequency satellite data and high-resolution aerial data and imagery to federal, state and local governments around the world. The partnership combines the global coverage and efficient data delivery from Planet with the diverse geospatial expertise and client-facing relationships of Woolpert to comprehensively support clients’ mapping needs.

The alliance seeks to help government customers address mapping requirements with the use of satellite and aerial data and imagery.

Space Force Receives Signals from Lockheed-Built SBIRS GEO-5 Missile Warning Satellite

The U.S. Space Force’s Space Delta 4 operations team is now communicating with the fifth Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (SBIRS GEO-5) satellite, following a successful launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on May 18, 2021.

SBIRS GEO-5 is the latest satellite to join the Space Force’s orbiting Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) missile warning constellation equipped with powerful scanning and staring surveillance sensors. These 24-7, always-on, orbital guardians detect missile launches, support ballistic missile defense, expand technical intelligence gathering and bolster situational awareness on the battlefield.

Jack Dangermond Honored by IGU with Planet and Humanity Medal

Esri announced that the International Geographical Union (IGU) has awarded Jack Dangermond – Founder and President of Esri – the Planet and Humanity Medal. The award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to peace, welfare, or sustainability. The IGU is an international, non-governmental, professional organization devoted to the promotion and development of the discipline of geography through initiating and coordinating research and teaching globally.
