Boundless Partners with Global SOF Foundation; DC Startup Week; The DigitalGlobe Foundation Celebrates 10 Years; & more

Boundless Partners with Global SOF Foundation

Boundless has partnered with the Global SOF Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at building an international Special Operations Forces network of military, government, commercial, and educational stakeholders. According to the Boundless press release, the work conducted by Global SOF plays an integral part in safeguarding national security and supporting critical decision-making—two initiatives Boundless supports. U.S. Army Col. (Ret.) Stu Bradin, President and CEO of Global SOF, said the Foundation is excited to see what GIS tools Boundless can bring to the international SOF community.

DC Startup Week

Sept. 11-15 is DC Startup Week, celebrating the city’s entrepreneurial spirit. The week includes a series of events designed to celebrate and engage the D.C. startup scene, which includes more than 70,000 startups and small businesses, more than 75 coworking spaces, and more than 70 business incubators and accelerators. The DigitalGlobe Foundation Celebrates 10 Years

This year, the DigitalGlobe Foundation (DGF) celebrates its 10th anniversary—marking a decade devoted to advancing the use of geospatial imagery to address local and global challenges and championing the education of the next-generation of geospatial leaders. DGF makes DigitalGlobe’s space-based technology and resources available pro bono for academic research, and ensures academics, scientists, and students obtain the necessary training to map, monitor, and measure the Earth for an ever-expanding number of uses. In the past 10 years, DGF has awarded more than 3,000 imagery grants and services delivering hundreds of millions of square kilometers of the Earth valued at more than $14 million.

OGC Approves New Standard for Streaming 3D Content

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) approved a new standard for content strategy. This standard is focused on high-performance visualization and spatial analysis in a services or disconnected environment. The standard is referred to as the OGC Indexed 3D Scene Layer and the Scene Layer Package Format Specification. Esri, along with numerous endorsing organizations, submitted the I3S and SLPK specification into the OGC Community Standards process for use by the entire 3D visualization community.

PAR Technology Subsidiary Awarded Air Force Subcontract

PAR Technology recently announced its subsidiary, Rome Research Corp., was awarded a five-year, $7.4 million subcontract to provide IT desktop support services at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.

President Trump nominated Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) as the next NASA administrator. Bridenstine has served on the U.S. House of Representatives’ Armed Services and Science, Space, and Technology committees and is a former Navy pilot.
