Northrop Grumman Acquires Orbital ATK

Northrop Grumman completed its $7.8 billion acquisition of Orbital ATK, rebranding it as Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. Blake Larson, former Orbital COO, will become corporate vice president and president for the business unit, focusing on innovation and performance.

AGC Seeks Systems and Acquisition Research

The Army Geospatial Center is calling for white papers and proposals in multiple research disciplines for the Systems and Acquisition Support Directorate and the Warfighter Support Directorate. Multiple awards are anticipated in areas including enterprise support, imagery systems, systems integration, and AI techniques.

Harris Provides GPS III Payload to Lockheed Martin

Harris Corporation dispatched the fifth in a series of 10 satellite navigation payloads to Lockheed Martin under the U.S. Air Force GPS III contract. The cargo includes a 70 percent digital Mission Data Unit (MDU) boasting increased signal accuracy, range, and lifespan. Harris is on schedule to deliver three more navigation payloads by Q1 2019. The company also announced development of a fully digital MDU for the Air Force’s GPS III Follow On program.

Esri ArcGIS Integrated with SAP HANA

Esri announced its ArcGIS software is integrating with SAP’s new cloud offering, SAP HANA spatial services. The convergence of ArcGIS with SAP HANA enables SAP customers to create data maps, customize data processing models, share location insights with decision-makers, and more to help grow revenue, reduce costs, and improve the customer experience. The integration follows Esri’s endorsement of SAP HANA as an enterprise database earlier this year.

Boundless Server Enterprise Available as Managed Service

Boundless announced its Server Enterprise offering is now available as a managed service in a secure cloud infrastructure, providing a scalable GIS server option for companies unable to configure and maintain their own server architectures. The Boundless server is built on open-source software and lets users manage their location data through Open Geospatial Consortium services and formats.

Ursa Launches Oil Monitoring Capability, Partnership with S&P Global

Ursa debuted Global Oil Storage Monitoring, a service using radar imagery to measure more than 3.6 billion barrels of crude oil in nearly 10,000 storage tanks around the globe every week. The solution is designed to deliver insights to hedge funds, traders, oil companies, banks, and more. Ursa also announced a partnership with analytics firm S&P Global Platts to help extract supply and demand information from the captured oil storage data.
