Novetta Acquires Berico Technologies

Novetta announced the acquisition of Berico Technologies in a deal that closed November 7. Berico will bring cloud engineering and IT modernization expertise to Novetta’s machine learning and analytics-based solutions suite.

Harris and L3 Merger Under Review

Harris Corporation and L3 Technologies announced an all-stock merger last month that would create the country’s sixth-largest defense contractor with a market value of $34 billion. The U.S. government is still reviewing the merger with antitrust authorities to determine wether it will result in “excessive consolidation” or an imbalance in the competitive market, but Reuters reports a Pentagon official has cited no concerns. The resulting company would have about 48,000 employees and would serve customers in more than 100 countries.

Vricon Partners with Telecommunications Company on 5G Rollouts

A major U.S. telecommunications company recently acquired Vricon’s data to support 5G network rollouts throughout the country. Under the multimillion-dollar contract, Vricon will provide high-resolution 3D data of urban and suburban population centers across the U.S., which the firm will use for infrastructure planning and network design.

In-Q-Tel Establishes International Offices

In-Q-Tel is opening new offices in London and Sydney to better engage with startups and the international venture capital community. These offices will support a continued partnership between the U.S., UK, and Australian intelligence and national security communities. In-Q-Tel Executive Vice President Peter Tague will lead the endeavor.

Deloitte Launches Drone Solutions Unit

Deloitte recently launched Deloitte U.S. Global Drone Solutions, a new business unit created to help clients determine whether to adopt, accelerate, or protect against the use of drones. The business guides clients in developing drone and counter-drone strategies, determining flight paths, collecting and processing data, and ensuring standardization.

IARPA Launches Movement Detection Competition

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) launched the Activity in Extended Videos Prize Challenge, inviting developers to create algorithms that can identify specified movements in video recordings and to compete for $50,000 in total awards. Submitted solutions must detect and localize 18 potentially concurrent activities in extended video. The first of two challenge phases will begin in late 2018.

Perspecta Wins DARPA ConSec Contract

Perspecta Labs was awarded a three-year, $5.4 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to support the agency’s Configuration Security (ConSec) program. The team from Perspecta’s research arm will develop and deliver the Optimized Context-specific Configuration for Attack Surface Minimization (OCCAM) system, which generates secure configurations for DARPA’s distributed networks and systems.

Alion Awarded GSA FEDSIM Task Order

Alion Science and Technology was awarded the $769 million Joint Capability Embedded Technology Insertion and Integration (JCETII) task order by the GSA Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM). Alion will provide operational support, integration, and research in the areas of remote sensing, communications, cyber operations, and security.

Cubic’s Mission Solutions business unit appointed Matthew Pfrommer vice president of strategic capabilities. In this role, Pfrommer will implement strategic growth initiatives and create and operate a new innovation center.
