CACI Completes Acquisition of LGS Innovations

CACI announced last week it has completed its transaction with affiliates of Madison Dearborn Partners and CoVant Management to acquire LGS Innovations. The strategic acquisition complements CACI’s January purchase of Mastodon Design and accelerates the company’s growth in its Intelligence Systems and Support, Space Operations and Resiliency, Communications, and Cyber Security market areas.

DMC Constellation Strengthens Airbus’ Wide Area Monitoring Capabilities

Airbus Defence and Space is now offering capabilities for wide area monitoring through the DMC Constellation, bringing increased resolution and extra spectral bands. These new assets will boost capabilities for agriculture, environmental monitoring, and disaster management applications. Complementing existing DMC Constellation satellites, this expansion of imaging capability is possible through exclusive commercial imagery agreements for the Alsat-1B satellite mission with the Algerian Space Agency, and for the KazSTSAT satellite mission with Ghalam LLP.

HawkEye 360 Begins Geolocation of RF Signal from Space

HawkEye 360 recently commissioned its three Pathfinder satellites and began geolocating radio frequency (RF) signals. HawkEye 360 satellites fly in a commercially unique formation that independently pinpoints the geographical origin of a wide range of RF signals. Early test results demonstrated successful geolocation of VHF Channels 16 and 70, EPIRB, and AIS signals as well as identified marine radar signals. This proprietary source of data enables HawkEye 360 to locate and analyze previously undetected activity, providing new insights for maritime, emergency response, and spectrum analysis applications.

PAE ISR Collaborates with FAA for NASA UAS Demo

Teaming with NASA for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems integration in the National Airspace System Project, PAE ISR participated in a joint kickoff meeting with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). PAE ISR was one of three organizations selected by NASA in October to conduct an unmanned aircraft systems flight demonstration of cooperative and non-cooperative detect and avoid technologies in the national airspace by July 2020. The demonstration is a partnership between NASA and industry with significant coordination through the FAA. Hosted by PAE ISR at the Pendleton Unmanned Aerial Range, the first meeting included team members from NASA and the FAA.

TCarta Awarded Contract to Map Seafloor Around Remote Pacific Island

TCarta was contracted by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) to provide a baseline dataset of water depths and seafloor classification around the Republic of Kiribati. Located in the Pacific Ocean, the island nation is threatened by rising sea levels. TCarta will supply satellite derived bathymetry to the UKHO to extract water depth measurements and seafloor classifications, including habitat types, from multispectral satellite imagery. In this project, TCarta is processing DigitalGlobe WorldView-2 and -3 data predominantly, as well as Worldview-4 and GeoEye-1 data to measure depths down to 30 meters at a resolution of two meters.

Verizon’s 5G First Responder Lab Unveils the Program’s First Cohort

Verizon announced five participating companies for the first cohort of the 5G First Responder Lab, a first-of-its-kind innovation incubator that will give leading first responder technology companies from around the globe access to 5G technology to develop, test, and refine solutions for public safety. The creation of the 5G First Responder Lab was announced in November. Cohort 1 participants are:

  • Adcor Magnetic Systems: Sensors to detect, identify, track, and correlate on a digital 3D environment
  • Aerial Applications: Drone solutions to turn visual data into actionable insights
  • Blueforce Development: Situational awareness solutions and sensors to enhance field operations and communication
  • Kiana Analytics: A physical safety and security platform with engagement analytics for real-time location/situational awareness
  • Qwake Technologies: Augmented reality products to help firefighters see in smoke-filled, zero-visibility, hazardous environments
