NRO Launches Third Payload This Year

A National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) payload launched on a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket July 28 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The NROL-61 is the third of four launches for 2016 supporting a national defense mission. The next NRO launch is scheduled for December.

Dewberry Awarded USACE Contract

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) St. Louis District awarded Dewberry a five-year contract for photogrammetric and LiDAR surveying and mapping. Dewberry will provide geospatial services consisting of professional photogrammetric mapping LiDAR and aerial imagery acquisition, along with related surveying work and photo interpretation. Under the contract, USACE will assign task orders to Dewberry on an as-needed basis to provide geospatial deliverables and GIS support.

ST Electronics Launches New Service with Completion of TeLEOS-1

Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) announced the beginning of its commercial imagery service of the Singapore-built commercial Earth observation satellite, TeLEOS-1. This marks a significant milestone of ST Electronics as its commercial imagery service will provide 1-meter resolution with exceptional response time for a near-equatorial orbit remote sensing satellite.

Loudoun County Awarded for GIS Innovation

Esri presented Loudoun County, Va., with an award for 30 years of excellence in geographic information system (GIS) technology. Since it adopted Esri’s GIS technology, the county has delivered smarter, better government services. Loudoun County plans to install a new GIS-enabled computer-aided dispatch system to give emergency respond dispatchers a more robust system for mapping locations of vehicles and callers. 

Ball Aerospace Acquires Wavefront Technologies

Ball Aerospace acquired specialized engineering cyber firm Wavefront Technologies earlier this year to strengthen and diversify its business portfolio. The new Ball team will make the move to a larger location in Columbia, Md., this summer. Ball is hiring qualified candidates to join its team in Maryland, with openings in systems engineering, software development, cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, and computer science.

ENVITIA Releases Discovery 5

ENVITIA recently announced the release of Discovery 5, reports Earth Imaging Journal. ENVITIA Discovery is a key technology in U.S. and U.K. military systems—managing, cataloguing, and transforming geospatial data into forms deliverable in deployed systems using a browser-based search capability. Discovery 5 delivers a highly scalable geospatial data warehouse, web services, and portal, consuming large amounts of new and legacy geospatial data.

Luciad Updates its Geospatial Software

Luciad recently launched its version 2016.1 of its suite of geospatial software solutions. According to the company’s press release, this version brings geospatial developers and users a range of new capabilities for Luciad-based applications. LuciadLightspeed is now fully Mac OS X capable and is one of the only geospatial products running in both 2D and 3D on Linux, Windows, and Mac with a single unified API.
