The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) will open its doors to industry and academia Sept. 14 as it looks to current and potential partners for help with its Next Generation tasking initiative.

The unclassified, one-day event, called the NGA Operations Technology Solution Discovery Day, will provide attendees with insight to challenging collection issues NGA faces.

NGA Policy Team Lead Amar Mahabir, logistics coordinator for the event, described the goals of the day as twofold: to encourage industry to help NGA solve next generation challenges, and to help industry and academia better understand what the future of NGA looks like.

Mahabir noted the Solution Discovery Day would focus on key themes, including automated collections, commercial imagery, integrated sources, and value. Mahabir said the event is intended to enhance the dialogue surrounding NextGen, to provide an update on current capabilities, to discuss gaps in services and technology, and to enable collaborative problem solving.

Participants will be asked to help the agency address four key challenges:

  • How can NGA better achieve automated collection requests triggered by known, recurring, or expected events?
  • How will NGA collection officers manage and integrate information/collection needs across a much broader collection enterprise?
  • How can NGA optimally use all classified and unclassified collection systems in one comprehensive system of collectors to get the best information required?
  • How does NGA shift to an approach that measures the value of collected data and its contribution to answering in intelligence questions?

Visit the USGIF website to register for the event, and the event’s FedBizOpps posting for more information.
