Designed to expand opportunities for students enrolled at HBCUs by providing on-site job interviews, networking, and information gathering, USGIF participated in the HBCU Week 4th annual Career and Recruitment Fair to spread the word about careers in GEOINT.
The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation joined 25 federal agencies, 126 employers, and over 2,000 in-person attendees at the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week 4th annual Career and Recruitment Fair. The event, coordinated through The White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities, is designed to expand opportunities for students enrolled at HBCUs by providing on-site job interviews, networking, and information gathering for both in-person and virtual attendees.
USGIF, with support from The Sawyer Group, LLC., attended the career and recruitment fair with three industry partners to help promote geo-careers to students and to offer those partners the opportunity to meet with some of our nation’s emerging leaders. As the war for talent continues and many employers seek to engage with underrepresented populations, representatives from Esri, Maxar, and Jacobs had the chance to engage with and recruit students and young professionals from HBCUs across the nation in USGIF’s virtual booth. Director of Education and Professional Development Christine Devine attended the in-person part of the fair at the Washington Hilton conference center.
“When we talk about growing the GEOINT pipeline, events like this one are an integral part of that effort,” Devine said. “It is an honor for USGIF to meet with so many HBCU students, alumni, and community members about all the opportunities the GEOINT world presents. If the future of GEOINT is not inclusive and equitable, we will miss out on the diverse perspectives necessary to fulfill the GEOINT mission.”
