NGA Releases New Mobile App

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) released its latest app, Tearline, into Apple and Google Play stores last week. Tearline delivers unclassified geospatial intelligence to verified government users via tablet and mobile devices and is open to the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, U.S. allies, and academic and private sector partners. Tearline was developed by NGA’s GEOINT Pathfinder project, which answers intelligence questions using only unclassified tools, data, information technology, and services available in the commercial and open-source world.

Boundless to Support NGA GEOINT Services

NGA awarded Boundless a $36 million contract for services required to package, deliver, maintain, and patch accredited open-source geospatial software packages in support of NGA GEOINT Services.

New Commercial Satellite Weather Bill Signed

Last week, President Trump signed the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017, which includes provisions formally authorizing ongoing commercial satellite weather data projects and a study of future weather satellite needs. According to Space News, the bill authorizes the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to purchase weather data from commercial satellite providers—spending up to $6 million per year in fiscal years 2017 through 2020—for a pilot program of data purchases to evaluate the effectiveness of commercial data for weather forecasting.

CompassData announced a partnership with Carahsoft Technology Corp. to serve as CompassData’s value-added reseller. The agreement makes CompassData’s data products for photogrammetry, remote sensing, and avionics available to the public sector via Carahsoft’s GSA Schedule and SEWP V contracts.
