DARPA Announces AI Next Campaign; SAIC to Acquire Engility; Raytheon Partners with Hawkeye 360; Airbus and Orbital Insight Partner on Geospatial Analytics; More

DARPA Announces AI Next Campaign

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency announced at its D60 Symposium last week a new “AI Next” investment campaign, a multi-year effort to funnel more than $2 billion into innovative artificial intelligence solutions. The campaign will promote the research and development of contextual reasoning capabilities, adaptive learning, and enhanced AI security and resilience. DARPA is currently pursuing more than 20 programs advancing the state of the art in AI. Additionally, the agency plans to issue multiple Broad Agency Announcements for such programs in the next year.

SAIC to Acquire Engility           

Science Applications International Corp (SAIC) plans to acquire Engility Holdings Inc. in a deal valued at $2.5 billion. The acquisition is expected to close by February 1, 2019. If completed, the transaction will create the second largest independent technology integrator serving government clients.

Raytheon Partners with Hawkeye 360

Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services business has partnered with Hawkeye 360 to provide more precise data analysis to the government sector. The alliance includes a strategic investment in HawkEye 360 and provides Raytheon with access to the company’s data. This access offers Raytheon’s government customers expanded coverage, deeper insights, and more cost savings, while providing a new layer of geospatial information and improved situational awareness.

Airbus and Orbital Insight Partner on Geospatial Analytics

Airbus Defence and Space entered into a partnership with Orbital Insight to build a suite of geospatial analytics services and tools. The agreement will provide Orbital Insight with access to Pleiades and SPOT satellite imagery at scale, and makes Orbital Insight the first analytics partner for Airbus’ OneAtlas digital platform.

MDA Imagery to be Available via DigitalGlobe’s SecureWatch

DigitalGlobe announced that synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery from MDA’s RADARSAT-2 satellite will become available to SecureWatch subscribers October 1. Combining DigitalGlobe’s high-resolution optical imagery and MDA’s SAR imagery will enable analysts to extract actionable insights regardless of weather, cloud cover, and light conditions.

Baton Rouge Implements Hexagon Smart City Solution

The City of Baton Rouge has implemented a smart city solution from Hexagon Geospatial to connect its government operations and provide insights to help keep residents safe. The solution is built upon M.App Enterprise, which enables the city to create and cross-filter Hexagon Smart M.Apps to visualize and understand pressing problems. The city plans to extend the solution to other departments to help them answer additional location-based questions, from crime to traffic incident analytics.

Senzing Technology Now Offered by Carahsoft

Senzing and Carahsoft announced a strategic partnership under which Carahsoft will serve as Senzing’s master government reseller. Senzing’s entity resolution 2.0 technology, which finds connections within big data, is now available to reseller partners and the public sector via Carahsoft’s NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement contract.

Spatial Networks announced the addition of Brian Monheiser as executive vice president for government solutions – global. In this position, Monheiser will deliver Spatial Networks products to the U.S. federal government, NATO, the United Nations, and other international governments and organizations. Monheiser has nearly two decades experience within the DoD and IC.
