Kristin Connifey: the Value of Adaptation

Kristin Connifey

Young professional Kristin Connifey has already had the privilege of working with five different intelligence agencies in a wide variety of jobs. She earned degrees from Texas State University and Texas Tech University and is currently a project integrator with S2 Analytical Solutions. Her background in analysis and regulatory compliance for both the government and the public sector helps her make connections between industry and the federal government to further the GEOINT mission.

How did you become interested in GEOINT?

My interest for GEOINT started in graduate school when I took GIS classes to become a more well-rounded crime analyst which, at the time, was what I saw myself doing for my career. I learned to love the stories you could tell with maps and how effective data could be when people saw it visualized geospatially.

What skills do you find essential in your job?

The skill that has served me best is my ability to adapt. Learning that the only constant is change and being able to understand the why and how of change has really shaped who I am as a person. To me, adaptability allows you to be less risk averse and encourages you to dive head first into new challenges.

What is the best and most challenging part of your job?

The best part of my job is being able to connect commercial industry with the government. The most challenging part of my job is the changing political climate and the level of uncertainty any new administration brings.

What advice would you give to individuals wanting to pursue a career in the GEOINT Community?

Never stop learning. Take classes, find training in skills you do not have, and never be the smartest person in the room. Learning will keep you present and engaged as an active contributor to any team you are on.

What do you do outside of your career?

My life outside my career is filled with love from my new husband Ryan, our friends, and my miniature dachshund Oliver. I am an avid runner who has seen more of our nation’s capital while running races and training than I have as a tourist. When I’m not running or spending time with friends I enjoy getting lost in a good book, writing, and planning future travels.

What plans do you have for the future?

Personally, I hope I will see the finish line of another full marathon and many more half marathons. Professionally, I hope to continue learning, keeping up with the speed of technology, and serving the GEOINT mission.
